  • High School Course Selection

What classes do colleges really look for in an “ideal” college applicant’s transcript? Does that idea even exist?

What kind of preparation do you need for certain types of academic or career interests? Is it better to take a more “rigorous course load” or to take an easier class that could raise your GPA? What do you do if you didn’t do one on one or more of your classes?

We can help guide you through some of these tough decisions regarding course selection.

  • Leadership & Extracurriculars Planning

What kind of extracurricular activities help you stand out among the applicants? Does depth or breadth matter more? Do you need specific types of activities in order to be competitive at certain schools? What if you don’t really have a defined “passion” at this point in your life?

No matter your present circumstances, there is always a way to make your high school experience that much more meaningful by rising to the challenge of flexing your leadership muscles. These skills will not only make your application shine but also will help you in your future career.

  • Designing a Unique Applicant Profile

The Harvard admissions committee reviewed 54,008 applications in 2024. Have you ever sat down and read a 650-word personal statement? How about 5? How about 30? Granted, these guys are professionals, but the question remains: how do you stand out in the pile? The good news is that you are already unique!

The task is to take a good look inside yourself and identify those elements that you consider most valuable to the institution you’re applying to. Then, present those in a way that showcases your true personality. There is nothing that spells DENIAL more than dishonesty. We will help you build an applicant profile that will make them truly curious.

  • Common App & Financial Aid Forms

The Common App is one thing, but depending on the school you apply to, you may have other or supplementary application portals to attend to, with their own associated deadlines. If you are a performer or visual artist, the process of setting up auditions and/or arts portfolios are also separate processes that have earlier deadlines.

Even after meeting the Common App deadlines for your early or regular decision schools, you will still have to keep track of financial aid deadlines. What’s a CSS Profile? When is the IDOC required? How do you send your FAFSA to more than 10 schools? We will take you through it all to ensure nothing goes wrong!

  • Crafting Personal Statements

The personal statement. Perhaps the most important piece of the puzzle, and perhaps the most overrated. The personal statement should be a work of art emerging naturally from the image of the person that has been created through test scores, extracurricular activities, and recommendations throughout the rest of the application.

It’s your final cadenza! It’s your chance to really allow your voice to shine through to reach the person reading your application that yes, 150%, you belong at this school. Not an easy task! We will be here to support, advise, and guide you every step of the way, from initial conception to drafting and finally to editing and polishing.

And depending on the student’s own creative process, this endeavor can be as hands-on or hands-off as needed from our end. We look forward to helping you craft a personal statement that you will want to hang on your wall.

And so much more…

The work of building a truly impressive and ultimately successful admissions profile never really ends. There is always something more that you can do to make your application that much more competitive than the next person’s. We are here to be your supporter, your guide, and your mentor. Get started today!

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”

— Colin Powell

  • "Margaret is amazing! She is professional, caring, efficient, and extremely good at her job. A key element that sets Margaret’s coaching apart from others is that she respects the limited time of her clients and can pack a week’s worth of information into a single meeting! Before we found Margaret, my kids tried other coaches and found they wasted time and were not helpful. If you have a busy high school student who wants to ace the SAT, Margaret is perfect! She also has valuable insight into the entire college application process. My kids will definitely be calling Margaret again as they prepare for grad school!"

—Kara I., mother of Adra & Grace, University of Pennsylvania & Brown University

  • “My time spent with Margaret was one of the best investments I've made. She started off as someone who would simply help me with test prep, but soon evolved into one of the best supportive figures in the college admissions process. Invest in yourself. Find the perfect mentor. Expand your future with Margaret. You won't regret it.”

    —Andrew Z., Stanford University

  • "Came here only wanting to increase my scores. With much practice and efficient strategies that I learned here, my scores actually exceeded my goal. Margaret created specific test-taking strategies for me, not broad ones meant to cater to everyone. With the importance of standardized testing in our society, these strategies will be paramount to me outside of just the ACT. After achieving my scores, Margaret further assisted me in the rest of the college application process (essays, descriptions, etc.) This was necessary for me, since my school's college counselors didn't give good, direct feedback on my application. Without Margaret’s help, I surely would not have gotten into my dream schools, one of which I'm currently attending."

    —Michael F., Brown University

  • “Margaret was extremely helpful in preparing for my SAT test as well as the whole college application process. I recommend her to any student who is willing to put time in for their future success!”

    —Alexandra K., Emory University
